Our Philosophy

An important factor to consider when choosing daycare is the type of learning style and overall philosophy of the facility.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a childcare service that prepares your child for all that life has to offer!

A person cannot be expected to develop and grow without having the initial foundations laid correctly. This is where we come in..

We use an interactive approach that allows staff to work with small groups of children at a time. We feel this is the best way to promote their natural talents and abilities as well as providing support and further development opportunities.

This ties in with my background in Montessori education and the Waldorf-Steiner ethos, focusing on the basic nature and ability of baby and child as starting point for our nurturing and "educating".

At Tiddas we believe that the self directed activity, attentive teacher observation, assessment, and a learning environment suitable for the ability of the child should be married and balanced with the 'feeling' and artistic life (or heart) and practical skills.

The family unit as a whole is what we are here for, thus our flexibility with hours and times. We understand the differences in circumstances, backgrounds and family settings.

About us and what we believe in.

Tiddas is fully registered with the Care Commission (registration number available on request) and the Scottish Child Minding Association (as we are a 'nursery' operating from home at the moment). We are located in the Meiklemill area and cover all of Ellon with our service.

My assistant Diane and I have 15 years of childcare experience behind us (not counting my own 31/2 year old!) and are SVQ 3 qualified in Early Years Care (ages 0-8 years). I also have an A1 Assessor's Award, enabling me to teach and train Nursery Nurses UK wide. We have both worked in schools, nurseries, private nannying (both UK and abroad), on-call childcare for Aberdeenshire Council and myself, as a peripatetic Childcare Assessor for Aberdeen City & Shire.
We have both also worked directly with babies and children with additional support needs.

I also employ 2 "on call" assistants who are fully disclosure checked and experienced in childcare.

We base our daily activities on 'Birth to Three Matters' and the '3-5 Curriculum' (both soon to be replaced by A 'Curriculum For Excellence' which we attend training events on). This enables our little ones to be fully prepared not only for school, but for day to day life! We keep track of their development through assessments and observations carried out during the day as we play and learn.

We have a very strong eco-friendly ethos and try to avoid using any products in our setting that are not biodegradable or natural, this ties in with my background in Montessori education and also the Waldorf-Steiner ethos that the more natural toys a child has the better! This will be more evident as we hope to acquire custom built premises in the next year .

Our meals and snacks are all organic and/or locally sourced, and we have an on-site Real Nappy rep.

Pre-School places are available at the moment - however a waiting list will be in place as of January 2010 so any interest would have to be ideally finalised before December.

Please feel free to give me a phone if you would like any more information. I would be more than happy to arrange to send you out a pack or meet you with you so you could have a look around :-)

Kind Regards,

Liz Duffy
